The Cambridge Young Fabians is unique. It exists to promote discussion of political and social issues, often from a left-of-centre perspective but without ties to any particular ideology. We do not hold our own beliefs – in fact, we aren’t allowed to – that’s in the constitution. Rather, we give you the opportunity to develop yours’ by listening to and talking with experts with strong opinions of their own.

What is the New Beginnings series? In Michaelmas the CYF are relaunching – our own new beginning. This gives us an ideal opportunity to examine the New Beginnings in Britain’s social and political landscape and the ways in which change can be made. To this end I have arranged a programme of talks, forums, and debates in which politicians, academics and other thinkers can give their views about the evolution of policymaking in this Blairite era of government.

You do not need to be a member of the CYF to come to our meetings – most attendees won’t be. Our costs will be covered by sponsorship from firms with many of the same interests that we have. Nevertheless, I would encourage you to think about the various different types of membership outlined on the membership page. I do hope that you will be able to make it along to at least a few of the meetings.

Best wishes – happy surfing…

George Bevis (Chair)
